We'll be celebrating National Banned Books Week with special events Monday through Friday! The library wants to say a huge thank you to the Freedom to Read Foundation for awarding us the grant that is allowing us to host this special festival.
Each event attended equals a chance to win one of five special gift baskets, valued at over $100 each! Each basket will be themed after a banned book: Harry Potter, To Kill a Mockingbird, Call of the Wild, The Great Gatsby, and Lord of the Flies. Check out the prizes below! (Full schedule and menu for Oct. 1 dinner follow.)
Monday, Sept. 27, 5-8 PM: Stop by the library and write a letter to your favorite banned author telling them what their book means to you. We'll have a list of authors and their addresses to choose from. The library will send out the letters. Any responses will be posted to our Facebook page.
Tuesday, Sept; 28, 5-8 PM: Stop by the library and try your hand at our Banned Books Scavenger Hunt! Can you find the banned books hiding in unusual places around the library? And, when you open them up--you'll find out why they were banned!
Wednesday, Sept. 29, 5-8 PM: Wanted Poster prop + you and your favorite banned book = One cute photo op! You can also take "shelfies" which we'll share on our Facebook page. Also... can you match the banned books to the reason they were banned in our police line-up?
Thursday, Sept. 30, 5:30 PM: We'll have a trivia competition at 5:30 PM! Play as a team or as an individual! Come test your knowledge! Winner(s) will receive a prize!
Friday, Oct. 1, 3-4:30 PM: We'll finish up Banned Books Week with a special dinner and discussion. Come enjoy a catered meal and discuss your favorite banned reads with fellow book-lovers. The winners of our gift baskets will also be announced!
